Defence and Siege Works

I 've been thinking about the best way to make defence works for a siege scenario for some time. I tried out some foam floor tiles and foamcore on a cardboard base to see if it looked alright.

So while I thought about the layout of the defences, I built a home for the big siege gun ...

I also tried out my siege battery and field works made for my 28mm figs and was happy to find that the ECW guns and the figs looked ok in it ....

After much messing about, cutting and gluing etc, I had a layout for the castle defence outworks. It is a simple earthen bank with ditch, plus a small gun position to protect the entrance ...

A view to show how it fits in with the castle ...

Now the next stage is filling in the cracks and painting up etc; probably will take a while but it will be worth the effort.

Looking good !
Years ago in my days in the Sealed Knot I fought over the Queen's Sconce at Newbury. A 42mm scone fort would be fab to see...
I am currently beset by temptations of the 42mm kind albeit 1670's to 1680's . I fear I will not resist...

Very nice outworks there Alan. I'm working on a Vauban fort for my 28mm stuff right this minute actually.

...when in doubt...dig!
