Gabions - work in progress

I wanted some gabions for use by the artillerie, I thought I try out the Renedra ones. You get two sprues of parts for £8.00, each sprue will make up 10 gabions - well worth it
The gabions are a nice size, being made of plastic they can be cut up and made into larger height ones; I used up one sprue and made 6 of varying height and had a couple of bits left over.
will do the net sprue's worth and then base up and finish off.

A little piece of artillerie ..

I have larger field guns (3 saker, 1 culverin), but I'm short on smaller pieces. So I married up an old napoleonic gun with some Lego plastic wheels to make a smaller brass cannon ...
Here it is painted up ....
prepare to fire ....

Further musings ...

I've had a fixation (more like a mental block) about unit sizes for a while, but my brain suddenly notched up a gear yesterday evening - I realised I can unit size as needed base on the type of game (doh !)
- bigger battles: foot - 18; horse - 9 (my orginal unit sizes)

- small battles: foot - 36; horse - 18 (my up-sized units)

- skirmishes/'adventures': well any size depends on the scenario, combining/splitting units etc as needed.

Thanks to those who commented on my previous post about the lack of uniformity in coat colours - very useful - I don't think I'll be repainting all my foot units but will mix coat colours when I combine my smaller 18 fig units into larger regiments.

I've loads of cavalry - a result of my project to re-fight Roundway. However I'm somewhat short on foot regiments. So I re-organised my storage (by using a couple of new larger boxes for storing cavalry), freeing up space to allow for 2 more regiments of infantry at the new size of 36 (or 4 at the old size of 18) - more lead to buy and paint - hoorah :)

Foot and Horse - 'up-sized'

Have doubled up my existing foot regiments, one will need some repaint (the dark green chaps joining the grey regiment need their coats repainted).

Also been experimenting with the size of a regiment of horse; trying out 18 + command; a regiment of 6 troops drawn up in 3 'squadrons'.

Playing with Foot unit sizes ...

Trying out some combos of existing foot units in same coat colour to see how different sizes of unit looked. I put two of my old units together, with extra command stand at the front
looks like a regiment to me now, with two/three flags, the pikes look likes there is enough of them (instead of 5or 6 per unit before).

Will probably do the the same - double up to all my foot regiments, but I may try varying unit sizes too (will probably need to buy some more figs to give about 3 of these larger regiments of foot per side); then move onto the horse - which should double up ok.
